Did you know that you can build your own event in support of United Way?
Creating your own virtual fundraising event is easy and you can do it at home, at your workplace and in the community! We’ve got a few tips to get you started:
- Start with a hobby or something you feel passionate about
- Do some research to identify a particular need in your community
- Pick an activity you can do virtually with your friends, family, and/or colleagues—we can still do things together to support community, even when we’re apart
Any funds collected beyond your break-even amount will go towards United Way’s work tackling local, unignorable issues—including poverty, homelessness and mental health—in communities across Greater Toronto.
Whatever you decide, when you show your local love, your community always benefits!
Ready to get started? Once you’ve reviewed our event fundraising toolkit, simply complete an event proposal form and email it to unitedwayevents@uwgt.org. We’ll be in touch soon after to discuss your plans and share tools and tips with you.
Here’s how any amount raised helps us tackle unignorable issues:

provides 10 people with 10 weeks of guidance on how to support a family member or friend struggling with mental health issues
$500
covers the cost of registration and books for two youth returning to high school
$1,200
provides important household items to six families, helping them make a life-changing move to secure housing
