We work with every level of government to serve our communities. That includes working in tandem with local authorities to overcome challenges and streamline support, amplifying local needs and priorities with government leaders, and helping government get funding into the hands of community.
Throughout the pandemic, that’s included being the go-to for getting emergency federal dollars out the door. We’re proud to have partnered with United Way Centraide Canada and the Government of Canada to deliver the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) in Peel, Toronto, and York Region, allocating a total investment of $21.1 million to over 425 community service agencies from 2020-21. We also administered the GTA portion of the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program in 2020 – a total of $850,000 distributed to 45 programs across the GTA.
See below for more recent government funding we’ve helped distribute.
United Way Greater Toronto funds 173 community service organizations through the Community Services Recovery Fund
United Way Greater Toronto is proud to have worked with United Way Centraide Canada as part of the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund. This fund is being administered collaboratively by the Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada to provide funding to Community Service Organizations, including non-profit organizations, Indigenous Governing Bodies, and Registered Charities located in Canada. The Community Services Recovery Fund responds to what Community Service Organizations need right now and supports organizations as they adapt to the long-term impacts of the pandemic.
The Community Services Recovery Fund is a one-time investment of $400 million by the Government of Canada to help Community Service Organizations (charities, non-profits, Indigenous governing bodies) adapt, modernize, and be better equipped to improve the efficacy, accessibility, and sustainability of the community services that they are providing through the pandemic recovery and beyond.
